Katherine Compitus, Owner
Katherine is a native of New York City. She grew up in Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village, where she was always surrounded by pets. She shared her childhood with 3 cats, gerbils, guinea pigs, rabbits and fish. She spent summers horseback riding in upstate NY. Katherine has dedicated her life to learning about animal (and human) behavior.  She has an MSEd in Education from Hunter College and is a licensed clinical psychotherapist specializing in grief counseling for pet loss and animal assisted therapy (she also has an MSW from NYU).  Her third degree is an MA in Animal Behavior from Hunter College with a specialty is canine cognition, perception and learning. She is a certified trainer (CPDT, APDT), has extensive experience training animals of all ages, sizes and species, including the dogs of several celebrities. (She even trained her potbellied pig, George, to be an animal actor and he is now featured in the Cash Cash “Surrender” video.) Katherine’s extensive knowledge of biopsychology, animal and human behavior, has lead her to develop her own humane and holistic method of training that pays specific attention to the animal’s health and nutrition as integral factors in determining their behavior. Her training philosophy is unique, but it is scientifically based and primarily utilizes positive reinforcement techniques. Katherine is, therefore, one of the very few people who are trained and licensed as both a human and non-human animal behaviorist. Before opening Wiggly Pups, Katherine worked at some of the best dog daycare/boarding facilities in New York City.  She also worked for the NYC Mayor’s Alliance for Animals, was a grief counselor at the Animal Medical Center and is a New York State Wildlife Rehabilitator. She currently lives with her husband, 3 rescue dogs (Angie, an Akita/Afghan Hound mix; Skye, a deaf Boxer/Staff mix; and Boston, an AmStaff mix), her cats Dorian Gray, Beatrice, Paddy and Navi, three mischievous rock doves and two naughty potbellied pigs.  The family Dogo Argentino, Jack, was rescued in 2009 as a senior and passed away in 2010 from old age.  Their Black Labrador, Morgan, was Kathy’s inspiration and motivation to become involved in Animal Behavior.  Morgan passed away in 2015 from cancer.  Jack and Morgan are both greatly missed.
Paul Compitus, Owner
Paul was born and raised in Surrey, England. Although he did not have a pet of his own, he was always the babysitter of choice for his aunt’s Jack Russell terrier and an uncle’s border collie.  He spent a lot of time at another aunt’s home, where he grew up with her purebred American Staffordshire Terriers. Paul came to the United States in 1996 after living and working for 2 years in Japan. He was the first non-Japanese fashion designer to work for the fashion house Matsuda.  After many years as a successful fashion designer (with Ralph Lauren, Nautica, Rocawear, Ecko Unlimited), Paul turned his attention towards designing pet beds and accessories.  Before opening and designing Wiggly Pups, Paul also worked at several well established dog daycare facilities in New York City.  He currently lives with his wife, Katherine, and their family: Morgan (Lab), Angie (Akita/Afghan mix), Boston (AmStaff mix), the cats – Dorian Gray, Navi, Beatrice, Paddy, their three birds and two potbellied pigs.  In 2009 Paul adopted Jack, a 12 year old Dogo Argentino, who passed away at the ripe old age of 14.  Jack was the official mascot of Wiggly Pups and his image has been incorporated into the Wiggly Pups crest. Wiggly Pups donates annually to Farm Sanctuary, The Humane Society of the United States, The Best Friends Animal Society, The American Humane Association, The World Wildlife Fund, The Wild Bird Fund and other animal charities.
